Welcome to a collection of some of my Marvel Comic Character Brooches. These feature a wide range of the superheroes in the various Marvel series.

Coinciding with Marvel Comics 80th anniversary year, 2019, the Royal Mail released a set of special stamps featuring some of the most popular superheroes. Designed by Interabang

‘Hulk’ – Dr Robert Bruce Banner

The Incredible Hulk is one of the most powerful heroes on earth. Mild mannered Bruce Banner is bombarded by radiation from a gamma bomb and then transforms into the Hulk when enraged.  The angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes. He uses his power to fight evil, although he is misunderstood and feared by those he helps.  The Hulk made his first appearance in  ‘The Incredible Hulk’ Marvel comic.

‘Spider-Man’ – Peter Parker

Spider Man, Peter Parker, gained his powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider.  His Uncle was his mentor and following his murder, the words “With great power there must also come — great responsibility” guided Spider-man’s path. His first  appearance was in ‘Amazing Fantasy’ in 1962. 

‘Thor’ – Thor Odinson

The Norse God of Thunder. Pride was his downfall and brought banishment to Earth from his homelands, Asgard.  His identity stripped away, he took on a mortal form, Dr Donald Blake. In the role of a doctor he finds his true character. Thor uses his hidden super powers to protect both Earth and Asgard. The character first appeared in ‘Journey into Mystery’ in 1962.

‘Captain Marvel’ – Carol Danvers

Carol Danvers, an Air Force officer, gained her supers powers after an explosion mixed her DNA with that of Captain Mar-vell. Following the Captain’s death, Carol takes on the mantle of Captain Mar-vell.

‘Black Panther’ – T’Challa

T’Challa, ruler and hero of the technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda. Years of arduous training, a body strengthened by magical herbs and a suit made out vibranium (a powerful metal) help the Black Panther to not only protect his homeland but also the world. Black Panther first appeared in the ‘Fantastic Four’ in 1966.

‘Doctor Strange’ – Doctor Stephen Strange

Stephen Strange, a brilliant surgeon, sought help from the Ancient One after his hands were badly damaged in a car crash. Strange became a Master of the Mystic Arts and Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme. With these powers, he protects the world from evil forces. Dr Strange who first appeared in ‘Strange Tales’ in 1963. 

‘Iron Man’ – Anthony Edward “Tony” Stark

Tech billionaire, Tony Stark, was attacked, injured and kidnapped by terrorists.  He escaped by building an armoured suit, Iron Man 1. After this he went on to become a founding member of the Avengers.  Iron Man first appeared in ‘Tales of Suspense’ 1963.

‘Captain Britain’ – Brian Braddock

Britain’s greatest Super Hero gained his powers after he was chosen by Merlyn (King Arthur otherwise known as The Dark Archer) to protect the country.  As a result of this he has saved not just the UK but the entire Universe. Captain Britain first appeared in 1976. 

‘Union Jack’ – Joseph “Joey” Chapman

The original Union Jack was Lord James Falsworth, who fought in the First World War. Joey Chapman, a working class hero from Manchester takes on the role after his descendant refused to take on the role . Union Jack first appeared in ‘Captain America’ 1981

Peggy Carter’ – Margaret “Peggy” Carter

Peggy Carter

Working for the French Resistance in the Second World War, Peggy Carter’s path crossed with Captain America’s and they fell in love. Consequently they fought the Axis powers before the war separated them. Peggy went on to become a leading agent of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, (S.H.I.E.L.D). She first appeared in ‘Tales of Suspense’ in 1966.
