The Royal Mail issued in January 2018 an exclusive ten stamp set featuring iconic characters from houses Stark, Targaryen, Lannister and Tyrell.
I combine unique and uncommon materials to create Game of Thrones brooches that are both contemporary and striking. These offer the wearer an alternative to conventional jewellery.
Tyrion Lannister Brooch– Character played by Peter Dinklage.
The youngest of the Lannister’s, Tyrion spent most of his life spurned by his family, who failed to value his sharp political mind. Tyrion was wrongly accused of poisoning Joffrey but was released by his brother Jaime. His allegiance then was pledged to Daenerys Targaryen as her Hand of the Queen.
After winning a Golden Globe for his performance in Game of Thrones – “I was talking to my mother in Jersey before I came out and she said, “Have fun but have you seen ‘Mildred Pierce’ (2001)? Guy Pearce is so good. He’s gonna win.” So . . . . .I haven’t seen ‘Mildred Pierce’ but I’m sure he’s really good and I just love our moms because they keep us humble.”
Jaime Lannister Brooch – Character played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Cersei’s distrustful twin brother has a major fault – his love for his sister. Robb and Catelyn Stark apprehended Jaime early on in the War of the Five Kings. He was freed by the latter against her son’s wishes. Increasingly disturbed by Cersei’s behaviour, he decided to leave King’s Landing.
Cersei Lannister Brooch – Character played by Lena Headey
Robert Baratheon’s widow held a dark secret: her three children were not Robert’s but the product of a long-standing relationship with her twin brother Jaime. Cersei sits on the Iron Throne in King’s landing. Now all three children are dead she is resolved to defeat all other contenders.
Arya Stark Brooch – Character played by Maisie Williams
Eddard and Catelyn Stark’s youngest daughter was less interested in becoming a lady than learning how to fight. After her father’s death, she survived by her intelligence, eventually training with the Faceless Men in the Free City of Braavos. She subsequently returned home to Winterfell and reunited with her siblings.
Daenerys Targaryen Brooch – Character played by Emilia Clarke
Reversed by her supporters as the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen recently travelled to Westeros to claim the Iron Throne. Shortly after her arrival, Jon Snow, hoping to convince her to help him fight the forces beyond the Wall, offers the support of the north.
Eddard “Ned “Stark Brooch – Character played by Sean Bean
Ned is the honourable and virtuous patriarch of Stark house. Asked by his oldest friend Robert Baratheon to govern as Hand of the King, he found himself out-manoeuvred at every turn. Made up charges resulted in his execution which gave rise to the War of the Five Kings.
Sean Bean said of the character, “he’s a good man trying to do his best in the middle of this corruption, he’s a fish out of water, he’s used to being up north in Winterfell where people are pretty straight and pragmatic, and he comes down to a place where people are playing games and backstabbing, he’s a principled man who tries to hold things together. This is a journey that he makes where ultimately his loyalty causes his downfall.”
Jon Snow Brooch – Character played by Kit Harington
The King in the North is a loyal and honourable man. After Joining the Night’s Watch, he rose to become the Lord Commander, but his determination to work together with the wildlings led to mutiny and his downfall. He rose from this defeat and returned to Winterfell, conquering Ramsey Bolton.
Tywin Lannister Brooch – Character played by Charles Dance
The head of the Lannister family was a supreme tactician who governed his adult children with an iron will. , Tywin was victorious in the War of the Five Kings due to his shrewd military tactics but later ruined by his refusal to respect and appreciate Tyrion Lannister
Sansa Stark Brooch – Character played by Sophie Turner
The Lannisters held Sansa in King’s Landing after her father’s murder. Sansa is Eddard’s oldest daughter. Initially inexperienced and innocent, she learned how to play the Game of Thrones by watching the devious Petyr Baelish. After a battle to reclaim her ancestral home, she became the Lady of Winterfell.
Olenna Tyrell Brooch – Character played by Diana Rigg
The matriarch of the Tyrell family. Her sharp tongue is matched by her intellect. After losing almost all her family in an explosion organised by Cersei Lannister, Olenna swore revenge and joined forces with Daenerys Targaryen hoping to completely destroy the Lannister’s.
